The Public Works Crew offers a number of services for the City residents.

How Do You Dispose of Yard Waste?

Please do not place yard waste, LEAVES or grass clippings into the street.  In the fall the City does allow leaves to be raked into the gutter section of the street.  However, this is only in the fall and only for leaves.  The City has a special machine for picking up leaves and is only put together and used in the fall.  The rest of the year you must take your yard waste to the compost site or mulch and leave the clippings on your lawn.

Compost Site Hours

A compost site is available for all CITY residents.  The site is located at the end of Maple Grove Drive in the Northeast portion of the City.  The compost site accepts the following items: leaves, grass clippings, garden debris, and brush.  The site is open on:

                         Saturdays:            9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

          Wednesdays:        2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Please keep all wood, plastic flowers, pots, paper, garbage or any other material that is not organic out of the yard waste pile.

REMEMBER, all brush should be kept separate!  A separate brush pile is available for brush, vines and twigs.

BRUSH PICK-UP

Brush pick-up starts on the first Monday of each month throughout the year (unless snow plowing prohibits collection).  You should have your brush out on the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday to ensure your brush will be picked up during the week.  We ask that people put their brush on the tree lawn, with all of the larger heavy ends of the branches facing in one direction, with the flow of the traffic.

We still have people piling their brush in a tangled, mixed up fashion.  If this is the case, the city crew will leave the pile of brush for the property owners to either straighten out or dispose of themselves.

Please understand that due to the LARGE volume of brush which can be put at the curb it often takes more than one day for the crews to circulate the entire City.  Please be patient.

Brush Pick up in fall...

Brush collection will follow the same yearly schedule.  As in the past, the crew will be using a brush chipper to pick up the brush.

DUE TO THE LARGE VOLUME OF REQUESTS RECEIVED BY THE DEPARTMENT, THE CREW IS UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE REQUESTS FOR BRUSH PICK-UP DURING THE MONTH.  PLEASE SCHEDULE TREE AND SHRUB TRIMMING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY'S SCHEDULE.

fall leaf PICK-UP

Starting in mid-October, the City street crew will begin picking up leaves that have been raked into the gutters.  The crew will continue to patrol the streets of the City until either all of the leaves are collected, or the snow prohibits them from continuing.

Residents are also advised and encouraged that if you do not want to wait for the crew to come by and pick up your leaves, you can take them to the compost site.  The Compost site is open through November (see hours above).
