Positions

There are three "types" of positions.  Below there are brief descriptions of the responsibilities.  Specific procedures/instructions will be given to workers in a manual and an orientation before working the polls.

Front "Welcome" Table

At this station election workers greet and direct the public, answer basic ballot questions and look up residents voting information.

District/Ward Table

At this station election workers give voters their ballots and record the voter in the poll list.

Machines

At this station election workers assure that people are putting their ballots correctly into the machines/boxes and occasionally interpret and "error code."

Shifts

For each position there is typically two shifts of workers:  Morning - 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Evening - 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (or later if asked to stay to help “wrap up”).  Positions are currently paid minimum wage.  A meal is included in both shifts.  Some years there may be only one election, others there may be four or more.  Election workers are typically scheduled every other election, however, sometimes workers end up being scheduled more/less often dependent upon worker availability and number of workers needed for each type of election.

Students (or other election workers) may be compensated for their work or may volunteer their time.
