Assessor Information The assessor for the City of Jefferson is Accurate Appraisal. If you have questions regarding square footage, date constructed, etc. please use the PROPERTY INFORMATION tab from the homepage. T Requests for staff to compile information on a property may require a charge. If the information needs to be collected from MULTIPLE sources, which require us to create a record, there will be a $10 charge. Anyone may review the records in person or on-line without a fee. Tax Bills
Tax bills for the year are usually sent out by the middle of December. Payments can be made in person at the City Hall Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Payments can also be put in the drop box on the Dodge Street Entrance to City Hall or mailed. Mail Payments should be addressed to: City of Jefferson, 317 South Main Street, Jefferson, WI 53549. Please include the appropriate payment stub from the lower portion of your bill with the payment. If you wish to receive a receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope and we will mail a receipt back to you. Checks can be made payable to the City of Jefferson. There are two methods of payment : One Payment Method: If you choose to pay your bill in one payment the total bill is due to the City by January 31. Installment Method: The first installment will be due to the City by January 31. The second installment is due to the Jefferson County Treasurer (320 South Main Street, Jefferson, WI 53549) by July 31. If payment is not made to the City by January 31, the ENTIRE tax bill becomes payable as of February 1st. This payment is then made to the County of Jefferson with interest due. 2010 COMBINED Tax Rate 2010 Assessment Ratio $21.900575277 98.36% **Tax Bills can be accessed thru the PROPERTY information tab on the home page.** Personal Property Taxes Personal Property Taxes must be paid in full by January 31. Your taxes are based upon an assessed value as determined by your filing of the Personal Property blotter prior to April of each taxing year. If your business is no longer in operation, you MUST return the blotter with that information or contact the City's Clerk's Office. Special Assessments Special Assessments are assessed to property owners for public improvements which are made along their property. Prior to issuance of assessments ALL affected property owners are notified and given a chance to contest or support the improvements. Special Assessments may be paid in full or by installment plan (if offered). If you select the installment plan, a predetermined dollar amount (plus interest) will be placed on your tax bill for the duration of the assessment.
